Orchestre de la Francophonie

The Orchestre de la Francophonie was created in 2001 for the fourth Jeux de la Francophonie in Ottawa-Hull, a major cultural and sporting event that promoted the talent of young classical musicians from across the country. Amid all the excitement of these Games, the OFC used music to help illustrate the great diversity of Canadian youth and to highlight their attachment to the French language and to Canadian culture.

Every summer, the OFC recruit the 75 best musicians across Canada. The OFC musicians then spend two weeks in residency before undertaking a tour of several Canadian cities. In those weeks, advanced classes (including one featuring orchestral excerpts) are offered by some fifteen teachers, including David Stewart, head of the strings section, Douglas Sturdevant head of the winds...

Also included are some meetings with some great masters such as Pinchas Zukerman, Music Director of the NACO and Yuli Turovsky, Artistic Director of I Musici.

Thanks to the success of the performances it has given from coast to coast, the OFC undeniably has a great deal to offer young Canadian classical musicians. Stimulated by this support, the OFC puts in place everything required to meet their needs for the experience and development of young Canadian francophone musicians by offering them concrete experiences.
